Essential to a deliverable and sustainable business in composting are planning, regulation and public acceptance. It is widely recognised that whilst site layout and engineering may mitigate some planning issues: noise, odour and site traffic remain key barriers to successful implementation. It is important to persuade public, politicians and planners alike that you have robust and high quality technical solutions to their concerns.
With HotRot you access a technology with these solutions built-in. HotRot provide guarantees for no odour and noise nuisance and with only minimum of onsite operations it is very easy for the HotRot process to blend in with your existing operations: the epitome of quiet reliability
and environmental sustainability. Contact us about our OdourFree® guarantee
HOW DOES IT WORK?
We designed our system around the heart of the vessel: the turning horizontal shaft. The shaft has ‘tines’ arranged in a loose helical screw along its length. These tines have a flat surface which impart enormous shearing force on the material when turned (0.5rpm). This action generates the swift size reduction and regular aeration responsible for a uniquely rapid and effective composting process.

“In a world where environmental regulation can only get tougher, the system is designed to be future-proof.”

Frequent loading is automated and can be regulated by weight. Each new addition of material moves the compost along the vessel until it reaches a weir at the end, where product is slowly discharged to a conveyor. Material is constantly being mixed from the top of the vessel to the bottom, ensuring each and every particle achieves target temperature. It is also the reason we don’t produce leachate: all liquid stays suspended until evaporated by high internal temperatures (up to +70oC). |
During the process oxygen is added to meet the high demand of the composting process through a series of injector ports along the sides of the vessel. Meanwhile, moisture laden, process air is captured in the head space and extracted to an odour control system – this is designed to fit location, level of control and budget.
The HotRot system operates at temperatures between 450oC and +700oC depending on the material and regulations and is capable of meeting both temperature requirements and pathogen removal criteria for both ABP Regulations and EU/208.
Unlike batch systems, once started there’s no requirement to open the vessel ever again, letting out steam and odour. There is no need to expose your workforce to corrosive, bacteria laden process air. In fact, if you wanted to, with our remote web-based access, you can control and trouble-shoot the site from wherever there’s a mobile phone signal.
THE HotRot® BENEFIT
We like difficult projects. In fact, the harder the material is to process and the more stringent the planning controls, the more value we deliver from the technology advantages we possess. For example:

We have recently been contacted by a number of power stations regarding organic waste produced by the filters on the inlets to cooling towers.
The 1509 appears to be just the right size (1500kgs per day) to compost this waste along with wood and other drier organic material to produce a rich, clean, high quality compost.

The HotRot technology is fabricated off-site in efficient and controlled factory environments. We transport them to site where they are quickly assembled before being tested and commissioned. This creates enormous advantages for us… and you:
- We produce less waste - a controlled factory environment means no waste material, it all gets recycled back through the process.
- Less waste for us, means less wasteful cost for you.
- Everything is quality checked before it leaves our doors - you won’t receive anything that isn’t in working condition when it leaves us.
- Installation only requires a small number of people over a very short space of time – for example, the total installation time for an 1811 is two days!
- From the moment you make the decision, the whole process is controlled, efficient and extremely quick.
- We have a range of models for varying waste streams, volumes and locations – more choice for you when you make that big capital investment.
- Plus, it’s totally moveable – if you don’t like it there we simply unbolt it and move it somewhere else.
At HotRot we know how to compost – if it biologically degrades, chances are we have composted it and know what the problems and opportunities are. Add to that a design life of over 10 years on all major parts and you have a long term technology that will be there, avoiding landfill costs and generating sustainable income, long into the future.
