The Munich plant was the first BEKON dry fermentation plant to be installed in the world. Initially installed as a demo plant for the municipality of Munich it has since been purchased by the municipality-owned waste company (AWM) and expanded to 25,000 tpa capacity in 2007. The plant has been operating without a days unavailability since 2004, proving the robust nature of the technology and assisting the Council in ensuring it always has somewhere to tip the household combined green and kitchen waste it collects. The plant has also been used to trial many alternative wastes successfully as part of BEKON's initial strategy for growth, including high food content household wastes from Italy, mixed municipal wastes and for a short time as part of an MBT set up. The Munich plant goes a long way to dispell the myth that co-collection of biowaste and anaerobic digestion cannot go hand in hand. |
