Envirocomp: The World’s First Composting Solution for nappy, sanitary and incontinence waste

It is estimated that the UK produces over 600,000 tonnes of waste from Absorbent Hygiene Products (AHP) each year, including 400,000 tonnes of nappies, all of which currently go to landfill.  Local Auhtorities estimate this represents between 2% and 4% of annual landfilled volumes.

Now, Envirocomp is setting up in the UK to recycle all brands of disposable nappies, sanitary and incontinence products and cut the amount going to landfill. The organic waste will instead be turned into compost for a range of horticultural and agricultural purposes.

Following successful introduction in New Zealand, the company plans to commission its first UK unit in 2012.
